Training Guide
A field-ready walkthrough — from installing the app to syncing IQ-scored points into your maps and reading them on the dashboard. Work through it in order for your first locate, or jump to any step.
Download LocateIQ from the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android) — it is the same app on both. On first launch you'll approve the access the app needs to do its job in the field:
Review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy on the permissions screen, then continue.
LocateIQ works three ways. Pick the one that matches your account — you can change later.
No account needed. Projects live on the device; capture, score and export from the phone. Nothing leaves the device unless you export it.
Sign in with your Subsurface Maps credentials. Capture straight into your company's cloud maps with photo attachments, two-way sync and the LocateIQ dashboard.
Sign in with your own ArcGIS account. Your web maps and layers load as-is and edits sync two-way with your org's feature services.
For high accuracy, pair a receiver and feed it corrections:
From Projects, open the map you'll be working in — or start a new local project. In Subsurface Maps and ArcGIS modes your existing layers load so you're capturing into the right place from the first point.
Set your active layer and default attributes so each capture is tagged consistently without extra taps.
Locate Mode turns a walk-out into a scored line. As you sweep with your locator, LocateIQ reads the signal and plots the trace with live audio feedback and a running quality score — so you can hear and see where the line is confident and where it isn't.
Relocate: to walk back to a previous locate, pick any stored point or line and follow the live distance and bearing — with RTK you land on it to the centimeter, even when the paint is gone.
Every point carries a Point IQ and every line a Line IQ — a 0–100 score built from six sub-scores: signal, null, compass, current-slope, CFC and GNSS. It tells you the confidence of both the locate and the mapped position, so a reviewer can trust the strong points and revisit the weak ones. Scores are color-coded on the map and stored with the data, so they travel to your GIS, exports and the dashboard.
Tickets are an attribute, not a separate system. Enter the 811 / One-Call ticket number once and every point, line and photo you capture is stamped with it. When the job is done tap End Ticket — the next capture prompts for the new ticket, so nothing gets tagged to the wrong job.
Because the ticket rides on the feature, it travels into Subsurface Maps, ArcGIS and every export, where you can filter or query by it. In the dashboard, footage, scores and time on site roll up per ticket, and the ticket overview shows one ticket's lines on a map with per-utility and per-technician breakdowns.
